Gift Vouchers

How does it work?

• The voucher is valid for up to 2 years.
• It can be used to book a meal in someone's home, hired holiday home or private venue.
• For any amount - the value of the voucher is set by you when purchasing. If the amount is enough to cover a meal experience in its entirety (including travel), you have the option to hide the monetary value on the voucher if you wish.
• When the recipient books a meal, the voucher can be used towards the cost of the booking. Where the voucher covers the whole cost, there would be nothing further for the recipient to pay (unless they would like to add more guests or extra courses).
• I can either email the voucher to you (as a code) or I can print a gift card and pop it in the post.
• If an unused voucher is lost, I will resend it - by email to the original purchaser - free of charge.
• To reassure you that the voucher cannot be accidentally redeemed, I ask for the recipient's name during purchase. Named vouchers cannot be transferred and can only be redeemed by the recipient. The recipient's name can be changed by the original purchaser free of charge by contacting me.
• If the voucher is to be issued without a name (for example as part of a fundraising auction or raffle), I accept no responsibility if someone other than the intended recipient (or the current holder of the voucher) redeems it.
• Vouchers cannot be refunded once issued, however if you purchase a gift voucher in error please contact hello@thecookinthenorth.com immediately to request cancellation before the voucher is sent to you.

For vouchers covering the full cost of a meal:

• Can be used anywhere in the standard area I cover (approximately as far north as Penrith and Middlesborough; as far south as the River Mersey and the River Don).
• Can be used for a 3 course meal or tapas tasting menu (as detailed on my menu pages) or a combination of dishes that I deem to be of equivalent value. I reserve the right to exclude menu items that attract an additional surcharge.
• If, after purchase, the annual rate of inflation rises above 10% I reserve the option to restrict some menu choices in order to account for any ingredients whose cost has risen exceptionally high.
• Bookings made by gift voucher recipients must follow my standard process (checking the availability of a date and reserving that date before finalising menu and other details). In the unlikely event that a mutually convenient date is unavailable, I will offer to extend the booking window and validity of the voucher by up to 6 months beyond its original expiry date.

Vouchers cannot be used for:

• booking public performances, displays, recordings, events or training.
• bookings which I deem inappropriate (as measured against the nature of my typical bookings)
• the purchase of alcohol (I am not licensed and do not supply alcohol as part of my service).
