Homegrown strawberries that have absolutely loved the recent rain and sunshine combination. I’m gathering some today from my organic garden for strawberry pavlovas – desserts being served tonight in the Lake District near Penrith for guests from Florida, USA.
Soil-grown outdoor strawberries are an incredibly rare thing these days – almost all are grown hydroponically in water on racks inside – and getting soft fruit that’s ripe is a challenge. So it’s always a pleasure to serve my own fruit, grown with love in compost made from previous year’s fruit and veg peelings.
