Passing Rievaulx Abbey in the rain, on my way through the North York Moors National Park to cook in Ryedale near Helmsley. This was the first Cistercian abbey to be established in the north of England in 1132 – the order’s emblem appears in my home town after Cistercian monks tried in 1147 to build an abbey on land behind our house. What a difference it would be seeing ruins like these from my kitchen window!

This is just one of many insights into my work as a travelling private chef in the North of England. "Where do you cook?" I hear you ask, "I'm looking for a private chef near me".
