Growing up in the Pennines, I always get excited seeing the sea. This is the North Yorkshire coast between Whitby and Staithes, near Runswick Bay and Kettleness Beach. A beautiful sunny day cooking a 15-dish tasting menu for a family who’d travelled down from Newcastle to celebrate a special birthday. The orange-roofed house on the right was my destination after a stunning drive through the North York Moors National Park to the Yorkshire coast.
