Nonchalant traffic standoff – about as busy as it gets on this road through the Yorkshire Dales – when the sheep just stand on the road, stare you down and dare you to interrupt their grazing. At least they have somewhere to go… the worst ones are panicked escapees who’ve jumped a wall and can’t get back in the field when a car comes. They end up running ahead of you for ages til there’s a safe passing place for them to bolt into.
