The first strawberry flowers are out – a week earlier than last year – but have been damaged by overnight frost earlier this week (the black centre of the open flower is the telltale sign… damaged flowers like this won’t produce any fruit). We’re on a windy, exposed hilltop so there’s no shelter for these plants – they’ll just have to try again with other flowerbuds over the coming weeks.
