Exploring the grounds of Hermitage House

Exploring the grounds of Hermitage House on the banks of the River Lune near Lancaster. It was a wet day (when has it not been since July!) but light enough to appreciate the symmetry and landscaping typical of the era – it reminds me of Letcliffe Park in Barnoldswick which I used to explore as a kid, full of privet hedges, concentric curves and hidden pathways. Five minutes waiting for diners to arrive and open up the house, by the quiet but swollen river, then into the kitchen to prepare a three course meal for 18 people.
